Nearly 40% of African Americans living in the suburbs are in a strong financial position in the United States. When it comes to creating a list of the wealthiest black communities in the United States, the state of Maryland is at the top of the list, as five of the eleven wealthiest communities discussed in this article are from this state. Some of the wealthiest black American communities have been listed below based on their median household income. 1. View Park, Windsor Hills, California It is one of the most prosperous black communities in the United States. It is surrounded by Ladera Heights and Baldwin Hills, which are occupied by nearly 84% African Americans. It is part of a series of districts that include the Los Angeles district of Leimert Park and the Fox Hills district of Culver City. It is the largest region in the United States where you can find the upper class and middle class black community. Ray Charles, the legendary musician, also has the most prestigious house in the neighborhood of this city. The median household income for people living in this region is nearly $159,000. 2. Baldwin Hills, California Being the most popular and wealthiest black community in the United States, Baldwin Hills is also known as Black Beverly Hills. This name was given to this community due to the displacement of African Americans to this region. This area is popular not only for being home to black professionals such as lawyers, doctors, and athletes, etc., but also for being home to several black celebrities. It is one of the wealthiest black communities in the United States because the median household income of people living in it is nearly $153,000. 3. Ladera Heights, California It is the prestigious black community located in Los Angeles County in California in the neighborhood of the famous Baldwin Hills community. This community has been divided into two parts, Ladera Nueva and Ladera Antigua. Old Ladera was built in the 1940s, while the new Ladera was built in the 1960s. This area is also known for its close proximity to Hollywood and the beaches, as well as the spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean from several homes in the hillside. Of the almost 6,500 inhabitants of this place, almost 74% are black. The median household income in this region is nearly $133,000. 4. This community that contains about 23,000 people of which 70% are black. It has expanded to over 14 square miles. People who live in this area include families with college students, young professionals, and children. More than a third of the population has an advanced degree from a university or a bachelor’s degree. 6. Kettering, Maryland This thriving black community of nearly 13,000 is 90% black. It is located in Prince George’s County, Maryland, next to Woodmore, MD. It is one of the wealthiest black communities in the United States due to its median household income of almost $107,000, slightly more than the neighboring community. 7. Woodmore, Maryland In Prince George’s County, Maryland, Woodmore is a suburban black community with a population of less than 4,000, the majority of whom are African American. It is one of the most affluent black communities in the US due to its median household income of just over $103,000. This black community in this region has a country club. Also, it is a gated community so it is safer than others. 8. Friendly, Maryland This black community with a small friendly population of just over 9,000 people is located in southern Washington DC, just a few miles from the main city. In Prince George’s County, Maryland, this community includes middle and upper class Black people. It is one of the most prosperous black communities in the United States, not only because of its median household income of almost $83,000, but also because only 0.4% of its population is poor. 9. Hillcrest, New York Hillcrest is a small town in Rockland County in New York. It includes African Americans from the middle class community in New York. In the 1990s, this city attracted people who lived in the Bronx and Brooklyn, more of them being black than white, based on demographic preferences. It is one of the wealthiest black communities in the United States with a median household income of almost $77,000. 10. Uniondale, New York This black community dominated by middle-class African Americans is located in the Long Island suburbs of New York City. Its population is just over 23,000 people, of which almost 55.50% are black. Due to the median household income of almost $76,500, this city is considered one of the most prosperous cities in the United States with a majority of African-American people. Another reason for Uniondale’s popularity is the home of popular actress Sheryl Lee Ralph. 11. DeSoto, Texas Almost 70% of the population, of the 50,000 inhabitants of this suburb, is black. They are on this list of the richest black communities because of their median household income of more than $61,000, which is more than the median household income in the State.
